At the end of Georges Bizet's opera _Carmen_, the title character is
stabbed to death by Don Jose, a former lover she has jilted. In a new
Italian production this has been re-written so that, instead, Carmen
draws a pistol and kills Don Jose as he attacks:

In a video clip on BBC news the pistol looked like a long-barreled
revolver, possibly a Colt Single Action Army. This would be
historically correct for the opera, which was first produced
in 1875. They didn't call them "equalizers" for nothing. Needless
to say, it is unusual to see British media showing armed self
defense in a favorable light.

Not seen the clip but I find it hard to believe the Beeb would ever treat any
firearms issue in a favourable (to us owners) way
